Carriers, Payments Companies Form Mobile Payments Advocacy Group

Aug. 10, 2012

The recently appointed CEO of the Electronic Transactions Association revealed in an interview yesterday that the trade group has launched a Mobile Payments Committee that will include representatives from all four major carriers and many of the up and coming mobile payment solutions providers including Google Wallet and Isis.

ETA CEO Jason Oxman told Venture Beat that the group, chaired by Verizon Executive Director of Federal Relations Jackie Moran, will work together to develop policy, strategy and look at the interoperability issues that plague the nascent industry.

AT&T, Intuit, PayPal, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verifone and Verizon are all slated to join the task force, though Square, which revealed this week that it will begin processing payments for Starbucks, is not currently a member, according to Oxman.
